Business ideas, the push and pull of product and service offers, the skills you bring and the skills you need to start the business, types of business plans and their purpose.
Building the foundation of your business
The business concept, identity, values, mission, environmental sustainability and how you will organise the business.
Gathering the tools to build your business
Market research, defining the target market, competitor analysis and sourcing supply chains
Checking compliance
Legal matters including ownership structures, including registering with Companies house/HMRC, licences, permits HMRC, Intellectual Property and employee responsibilities.
Location and workspace requirements
Deciding how and where to start trading and the capital goods needed to start making sales.
Money matters 1
Methods of raising start-up finance, accounting literacy, pricing strategies, methods of payment, banking and managing transactions.
Money matters 2
HMRC, filing accounts, tax responsibilities, National Insurance Contributions, VAT, preparing key financial documents.
Making a profit
How will you gain sales traction to gain interest and maintain customers, determine profit margins and how to create an effective sales funnel.
Communicating with your ‘ideal’ customer

An IOEE award winning educator, trainer and mentor. She brings 20 years of working with those who starting out in the world of enterprise and entrepreneurship. Her expertise is working with owners of mono and microbusinesses, especially those with a neurodiversity. Her key skills are business planning, market research, creating marketing campaigns on a budget, coaching, project and general operations management.

For this Skills Bootcamp, you are required to be self employed or under PAYE. No previous knowledge is required.
You must be over the age of 19 to be eligible.

What equipment do I need?
You'll need a laptop/desktop with a camera, microphone, and reliable internet.
What happens after?
Upon successful completion of the Skills Bootcamp, you will receive a certificate plus further support from the Berkshire Growth Hub team.
Am I free or do I pay?
If you are self employed you do not need to pay.
If you wish to upskill your own teams, as a business you will contribute a portion of funding (10% for SMEs, 30% for large employers), while the Department for Education covers the rest.
What is a Skills Bootcamp?
Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer.
