In celebration of Black History Month this October, we would like to feature a Black owned business in Berkshire as our Business in the Spotlight: Gold Dust Hub.
Gold Dust Hub, a small home based project turned well-established brand, was originally set up in in 2005 to deliver music events for the over 30s in Reading, Berkshire. Since then, they have added a community-based internet radio station (Gold Dust Radio) in 2013 playing music of black origin, mixes and interviews, promotional event services, merchandise sales, DJ hire & event management.
I first started playing music in 1988 and have not looked back! My DJ and event management work spans over 30 years, in conjunction with a career in Telecoms working mainly as a Commercial Manager. I have a passion for enriching my community and the power of broadcast plays its part in that together with a passion for developing talent and giving them opportunities to shine creatively.
– Deano Jones – Presenter/DJ/Event Manger & CEO Gold Dust Hub CIC
Gold Dust Hub has been working with young people to get them involved in music, as they believe that it can provide a constructive framework for personal growth, skill development, and community engagement. These factors, in turn, can reduce the likelihood of being drawn into crime by fostering a sense of purpose, building supportive relationships, and creating opportunities for a successful future.
Their Values
1. Opportunity and Growth – Gold Dust Radio is committed to being a platform where new talent can begin their journey, providing opportunities for emerging artists, presenters, and creatives to develop their skills and gain exposure.
2. Innovation in Sound – We celebrate creative expression and encourage pushing the boundaries of traditional radio, giving space to fresh, innovative, and funky content that represents the next generation.
3. Community-Driven – Collaboration – Our station thrives on collaboration with local talent, businesses, and organizations, reflecting the vibrant diversity and energy of the community in everything we broadcast.
4. Mentorship and Education – Gold Dust Radio supports the personal and professional growth of its contributors by providing mentoring, hands-on learning, and development programs, helping the next wave of creators thrive.
5. Inclusivity in Creativity – We believe that everyone, regardless of background, should have the chance to participate in and enjoy creative expression, making sure our programming remains open, welcoming, and accessible to all.
Gold Dust Hub has an ambition to expand their services by utilising their experience and professional contacts, providing affordable educational and training programmes for young people who may otherwise be unable to develop their talents or access broadcasting and entertainment opportunities.
