LEDs light up the path to sustainability

A label company in Berkshire took another step in its environmental vision by implementing a very popular energy-efficient product – LED lighting. The team at Berkshire Labels got the “push” they needed thanks to a £2,000 grant from Low Carbon Workspaces and they didn’t look back. Indeed, they can now look forward to projected savings of nearly £1,400 a year.

Notwithstanding the labels the company produces from its base in Hungerford, there is another ‘label’ that could be applied to how the business operates: sustainable.

The list of Berkshire Labels’ environmental credentials is impressive, so when the lighting throughout the business needed replacing, there was only one thing on their mind: install more energy efficient lights. Specifically, LEDs. LED lighting is the most popular energy-saving product funded through the Low Carbon Workspaces programme, so the grant team were well-placed to provide support.

“The grant gave us the push we needed to go ahead and install the LED lighting. The Low Carbon Workspaces team were great, ensuring the grant application progressed smoothly. We are very happy.”

Berkshire Labels was awarded a £2,160 grant to put towards the total project cost of £6,500 and is now projected to see savings of £1,394 per year on its electricity bills.

“We are delighted to be continuing to strengthen our sustainability credentials,” said Berkshire Labels’ Neil Tarling.

Happiness is to be expected when a business with sustainability in mind sees projected savings of nearly 15,000 kWh and 3.4 tonnes CO2e each year.

“Berkshire Labels has actively engaged in sustainable practices for many years,” explains Neil. “We have sustainable label solutions to complement all packaging designs and always try to meet one or more of the sustainable fundamentals of responsible sourcing, including recycled content, recyclability, compostability and reduction of material.”
